The Teatro Olimpico is the first indoor theatre in masonry in the world, with interiors made of wood, stucco and plaster.It was constructed by architect Andrea Palladio, between 1580 and 1585, when it was inaugurated.It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Teatro Olimpico is located in Piazza Matteotti 11, in Vicenza, city located between Milan and Venice in northeast Italy. The Teatro is openTuesday to Sunday from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. (last admission: 4.30 p.m. -In summertime 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. ) Closed on Monday.
The cost of entry ticket is € 11.00, available combined ticket, discounts for families, schools and groups.


In the Teatro Olimpico, which has 400 seats, are held theater and music productions: the "Settimane musicali al Teatro Olimpico" (Musical weeks), the Festival "Omaggio a Palladio", "Vicenza in Lirica" and the classical shows "Coversazioni" in autumn.

THE MAGIC OF ILLUSION

 

Here you are a video taken form the documentary "Empire of the Eye: The Magic of Illusion" released in 2003, presented by da Al Roker, an american productor and actor.
It describes the spectacular illusion effect created by Palladio in the scenery of the Teatro Olimpico, with the following words:

"Illusion becomes pure theater in Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza, Andrea Palladio's last work. This extraordinary theater is designed in the style of a Roman amphitheater with phenomenal effect. Palladio takes us back in time. We enter into a spectacular and very special space, built in the 16th century. The Teatro Olimpico still operates today as a cultural center and as a theatre dedicated to presenting dramatic musical performances. Palladio created an imaginary world, the illusion of an outdoor theatre hidden like a secret treasure in the palace which houses and protects it..."

 

Dal 1°settembre al Teatro torna l'orario autunnale 9-17

Details

Per le altre sedi dei Musei civici del centro storico invece orario estivo prolungato fino al 30 settembre.

Dall’1 al 30 settembre i Musei civici osserveranno i seguenti orari: Palazzo Chiericati, la Chiesa di Santa Corona e il Museo Naturalistico Archeologico saranno aperti dal martedì alla domenica dalle 10 alle 18; il Museo del Risorgimento e della Resistenza aprirà, dal martedì alla domenica, dalle 10 alle 13 e dalle 14.15 alle 18; Le Gallerie di Palazzo Thiene saranno aperte da giovedì a domenica dalle 10 alle 18. 

Il Teatro Olimpico ritornerà all’orario consueto, dal martedì alla domenica, dalle 9 alle 17. Si segnala che per consentire lo svolgimento delle prove degli spettacoli classici il Teatro Olimpico sarà chiuso nelle seguenti date:

il 13 settembre:gli spettacoli "suoni e luci" del pomeriggio sono sospesi
il 25 settembre dalle ore 16.00 ( prove durante la giornata ma garantiti gli ingressi)
il 7 ottobre dalle ore 16.00
il 20 ottobre dalle ore 13.00
il 27 ottobre dalle 16.00

La Basilica palladiana rimarrà aperta, come di consueto, dal martedì alla domenica dalle 10 alle 18, mentre la terrazza sarà visitabile dal venerdì alla domenica dalle 10 alle 18. In orario serale la terrazza con servizio bar è aperta venerdì e sabato, dalle 19 all'una di notte, domenica dalle 18.30 alle 23.

Per tutte le sedi l’ultimo ingresso è previsto 30 minuti prima della chiusura.

L’ufficio Iat, Informazione accoglienza turistica di piazza Matteotti 12, rimarrà aperto tutti i giorni dalle 9 alle 18 (0444320854, iat@comune.vicenza.it).

L’infopoint e la biglietteria in Basilica palladiana sono aperti da martedì a domenica, dalle 10 alle 18 (chiuso il lunedì, 0444222855).

I biglietti singoli e le card sono acquistabili anche presso l'infopoint in Basilica Palladiana.
